August 15, 2025 — The acceptance meeting for the No. 2 Coke Oven Shrinkage Retrofitting Project at Shandong Tiexiong Metallurgical Technology Co., Ltd. (HT contracted) was organized by Shandong Chemical Industry Special Action Office and held in Zouping City. The meeting marked the nation’s first coke-oven shrinkage retrofitting completed under hot production conditions.

The event drew high-level attention from provincial, municipal, and county authorities. Attendees included representatives from the Shandong Province Department of Ecology and Environment and the Emergency Management Department, as well as the Binzhou City Chemical Special Action Office, Zouping City Bureau of Industry and Information Technology, and Zouping Daixi Subdistrict Office. The project’s main implementer, Shandong Tiexiong Metallurgical Technology Co., Ltd., and the general contracting firm, Huatai Yongchuang (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., participated actively throughout the process. To ensure credibility, an expert panel of three specialists conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the project’s implementation.

During the acceptance, HT presented a detailed project briefing, followed by on-site inspections. Key topics included construction quality and technical breakthroughs for the No. 2 coke-oven shrinkage retrofit. Construction started May 6, 2025, and was completed August 13, 2025. The retrofit involved demolishing ovens Nos. 127–129 and building new concrete retaining walls, while retaining 35 carbonization chambers. The team employed an innovative “simultaneous demolition and support” approach near the new retaining walls, complemented by dense fill with air- and water-cooling measures for safe cold-temperature casting. This method effectively isolates the heating gas, waste gas, and coke-oven exhaust, reducing construction risks.

The project preserves 35 carbonization chambers in coordination with the 75 chambers of Coke Oven No. 1, delivering an annual coke production capacity of 1.1 million tons and aligning with the installed capacity.

The acceptance panel concluded that risks were well controlled at critical stages—demolition, support, temperature-gradient management, and casting. The project fully complied with The Expert Meeting Requirements on the Coke Oven Shrinkage Retrofit Plan for Shandong Tiexiong Metallurgical Technology Co., Ltd. dated November 21, 2024, and the panel unanimously approved the acceptance. As China’s first coke-oven shrinkage retrofit completed under hot production conditions, Shandong Tiexiong Metallurgical Technology Co., Ltd. has accumulated valuable experience and established a model for similar projects. The team’s technical innovations and risk-management approach are expected to serve as a reference for future initiatives.
